Vintage Nurburgring Carnage

Seems to be a tricky corner. Pay attention at 1:50 for a cheap laugh or two.

Gear? Who needs gear?

Sticking with the motorcycle theme, here is an incredibly lucky man.

Daily Bean Delivery - Yellowbird laps the ring

The RUF CTR 01 is quite the handfull, wouldn't you say? It will kill you faster than you can say "snap oversteeeeeeeOWWW my lung".

If only we could have put sounds on our walls as kids, not lame boring smelly posters.

Dang, that PT cruiser pretty fast, son

This never, ever, ever gets old.

Late on the brakes

An unlikely pass if I've ever seen one :)

Johnny "Cock tease O'Hoolihan" Greaves

Let's say this guy Johnny Greaves successfully jumps a truck 301 feet, but somehow doesn't allow us to see video of it. Instead all we get are some still images of said jump and said guy being smug about us not seeing the video of him jumping a figurative football field.

Have you ever woke up in the middle of the night, drenched in sweat, wondering what the process of assembling an E46 BMW looks like? Rest well my friend, rest well.

You're getting your christmas gift early. This is nearly 1.5 hours of group B rally, more specifically, just the sounds of the cars and crowds. Yum.

The BMW S1000RR is going to murder you in the face

BMW? In MY supersport market? It's more likely than you think. (See what I did there?)

BMW announced their liter-supersport a while back and no one really knew how serious to take them. According to Asphalt and Rubber, it looks like they should be taken seriously. BMW was claiming 193hp at the crank, a pretty crazy number by itself. Turns out it puts down 183hp at the rear wheel on the dyno, so it looks like they may have been playing the coy under-estimating game.

My man parts hurt just thinking about it.

Gran Delaymo 5 - LAWL

Joystiq saves the day with another reminder that Polyphony Digital is a joke. To be fair, the game looks great graphically, is getting THE top gear test track, and is rumored to include a editor where you can make your own freaking tracks.

But you know, you can have as many features as you want and it's all worthless until you actually release the freaking game. I don't even have a PS3 though so I'm just a forza fanboy.

Daily Bean Delivery - Pastrana new year's practice crash

Here is Travis Pastrana doing what he does best: Crazy awesome things that end badly (or occasionally work). New year's even he's going to jump a car 250ft off a pier onto a barge. Yea? Well I'm going to drink eat food and drink beer. So there!

MotoGP going back to 1000cc engines

Asphalt and Rubber is reporting that MotoGP is heading back to 1000cc engines for the 2012 season. One stipulation is that the bore size can be no larger than 81mm. That's about all the details they're giving up right now.

Timeline of engine changes in recent years:
2002: Introduction of 990cc 4-stroke MotoGP (instead of 2-stroke 500cc).
2007: Maximum engine capacity reduction from 990cc to 800cc.
2009-2010: Maximum engine usage (6 engines per rider in 2010).
2012: Maximum engine capacity increased to 1000cc, with a limit of 4 cylinders and a maximum 81mm cylinder bore.

Ferrari F50 sounding mighty fine

"That is amazing" is right, guy from the video. The F50 is kind of the black-sheep supercar from Ferrari, but it sure does sound nice.

Daily Bean Delivery - 2007 12 hours of sebring finish

A pretty crazy finish considering it was a 12 hour race. I would have been pissed if I was that driver, though.

How not to drive at the ring

I like to think that I'm a pretty good driver, but deep down I know that I suck compared to anyone with real talent. That said, I hope I'm at least better than this guy.

Daily Bean Delivery - F1 vs Rally vs street car

This is either an old Top Gear challenge or from one of Jeremy's (Steevarooski's) DVDs.

Sorry I missed updates yesterday, I took the day off from work and website updating.

Edmunds: GTI vs Mazdaspeed 3

Edmunds has a comparo with the both newly re-designed GTI and Mazdaspeed 3, refinement vs. performance.

This is the second comparo I've seen with these two cars, same result.

Pretty neat video, though I can't help but this the is the slowest way to put together a motorcycle unless you asked me to do it.

2011 Miata Rumors: Whispering sweet nothings in my ear

Edmunds is saying that the next gen Miata (MX-5, actually) will be smaller and lighter. Music to my small (yet surprisingly fat) body! Target weight is a ridiculously optimistic 2200 lbs, down from around 2500 for the current car.

Motivation for the "lithe sexy awesome machine" (literal translation of MX-5 in my delusional mind) is rumored to be a new series of engines dubbed "Sky-G" who's claim to fame is small displacement, yet yummy direct injection. Rumors are a 1.3-1.5l engine developing around 150hp to keep the power/weight ratio of the current car.

Not only was 2200 lbs a ridiculous enough claim, but Mazda engineers are claiming 50mpg or better fuel consumption numbers with the small, 1.3l Sky-G "jesus engine".

Time will tell gentleman, time will tell.

Hand Job

I'm told this is really funny, but I think it's a very useful product. I don't get it.

When Wagons Attack

Wagon Attack is a short film about the love that man and machine can sometimes share, if even just for a moment. Or it's just an excuse to show off a turbocharged civic wagon in the dunes (as if you needed an excuse). It's well done if you ignore the music (take your PBR, skinny jeans, cardigans, and ironic 80s references elsewhere hipster)

Daily Bean Delivery - Oulton Park Crash Melee

Here's an expensive day out at the track. Since I don't own any of these cars I fully support racing in the rain unlike the whiny left-hander wonders of other motorsport.

Too many balls

Some friends decided to set up a standing Top Gear party event each week so we could all watch the new episode together. Beer, pizza, wings, car show - if only every day sounded so good.

We were watching the first episode of season 14, which featured a comparo between the BMW 760 and Mercedes S63 AMG. During the show they're abusing the cars around the track and the Mercedes is a constant drifting land barge with a forrest fire coming from the trunk that leaves us all ooohing and ahhhhing, as to which Brad exclaims "Too many balls!"

We're pretty sure he meant "Too much balls" or even "That car's powerful drivetrain seems to have overwhelmed the rear wheels so much that the tires have lost grip and are violently spinning and causing smoke from the friction against the driving surface", but "Too many balls" is what slipped out instead. Maybe he was right the first time, because really when can you ever have too many balls?

Top Gear S14E04

Just a reminder that you can head over to Final Gear to snag your questionably-acquired episode of everyone's favorite car show. Since mininova is now shut down, it's using a new site that may be questionable to certain content filters (for spam).

On a side note, when I ganked the above image off of google image search it was called "steve-top-gear.jpg", so I think I'll start calling Clarkson "Steve" or "Stevearooski" from now on.

Daily Bean Delivery - This here Audi is pretty quick

Them Germans seemed to get something right, or at least the folks at ARD. 60-90 in 2.4 seconds is highly adequate, hmmmm yes *smokes pipe*

Rationing the Beans

While this website is mostly dedicated to "Giving it the beans" (and many of them), the 2010 Toyota Prius PHV was unveiled at SEMA this week and it's pretty cool in a doesn't eat meat kind of way. It differs from the standard Prius in that it's plug-in capable and can travel up to 13 miles (up to 60MPH) on electric-only power. I consider that pretty cool because I'm could probably juuuuuuuust get to work and back home without using any gas.

I would take one for free, you know, for uhhhh science.

Here is the long and boring Toyota press release if anyone is interested.

Daily Bean Delivery - Nicky Hayden Supermoto

Another oldie but a goodie featuring MotoGP riders Nicky Hayden and Max Biaggi (former MotoGP, apparently now in World Superbike) reminding all of us that we suck at riding motorcycles.

He was a two-eye-two-armed-speeding-purple-football-player

According to the Associated Press, Adrian Peterson was caught doing 109 in a 55 in his BMW, but I'm sure he had somewhere to be like a rich, strong, attractive guy meeting (Though he wasn't at the last one. It's funny because I was implying I was there myself) - so it's ok. Hang in there AP, don't let the man get you down.

Autocar reviews the Hammerhead Eagle i-Thrust

"Graceful, elegant lines" and "Unyielding, yeti-like power" are a couple phrases you won't read in Autocar's review of the Hammerhead Eagle i-Thrust. This fine machine was fruit of at least 13 minutes worth of work by the Top Gear lads from episode 2 this season.

Daily Bean Delivery - Joe's GT-TT

This is a bit of a classic (Two-thousy-six represent!) on the intertubes featuring the first twin turboed Ford GT owned by some lucky gentleman named Joe. It's shot documentary style and very well done overall. Good way to kill 20 minutes while simultaneousy reminding yourself how worthless your life is for not having this car.

Holy shit of the day

This is why is sucks that Fifth gear is being canceled. Who else is suppose to answer the everyday quesions like "What compact car gives me the best value for my money" or "Can I drive a Toyota Aygo upside down inside a giant steel loop?"

I don't think I ever called it a loop-the-loop, maybe my car loop way generic? "Fantastic upside down car track enjoyment polymer device" has a much better ring to it. Either way, this is pretty crazy seeing it in full-size. Jockstraps off to you, stunt guy.

Update: Apparently it's the Toyota Aygo as some internet bodybuilder fashion model tough guy has pointed out. Some guys just have all the luck.

World's fastest Volvo?

Jon sent me this MSN post about the Speed World Challenge S60R racer at SMEA that is claiming to be the world's fastest Volvo. On the Road Atlanta back straight it managed to hit 167mph, which is not too shabby for a car built for racing and not all out speed.

Coincidentally, Road Atlanta is my favorite track to race in Forza, and I believe the S60R is available for me to tune. For science and all of mankind, I shall tune my own and report my findings. If I can't top 167 MPH then I'll just use the Veyron and pretend it was the S60R and still be smug on the internet about it.

Fifth Gear circles the drain

It looks like the UKs second best car show is going the way of the... canceled according to Tiff's recent twitter post (I can't bring myself to call it a tweet).

While it's not as entertaining as that other car show, I do think Fifth Gear was a quality program that had some great moments. The Jason/Tiff dogfights were usually a good show and Johnny is a miser after my own heart (the bit about the french factory worker who uses the over-hand smoking technique cracked me up).

Best of luck to the potentially disbanded cast. Hire me on your next show, broskis!

You're doing it wr.... Nevermind, you are awesome

Legend has it there is a thread at Supermoto Junkie that demonstrates one man's quest to deliver oozing awesomeness direct to you using a series of tubes.

liek OMG tigr u suk lol

Always one to keep up on celebrity gossip, Jalopnik posted pictures of Tiger's smashed up Escalade. Tiger, you got some 'splainin to do!

Of course, what kind of man would I be if I didn't include the Chinese CGI re-enactment video? Shame on you for even thinking I'd forget.

Shame!

Thank you for flying DRZ 400SM Air

This guy knows how to distribute correct levels of beans. Probably not the best idea on public roads, but it's entertaining anyway.

Expect many-a super moto post in the future, quite possibly the most fun you can have on two wheels (even though they may be on one a lot). Or so I hear. Because I'm a wuss and haven't ridden one.

Porsche Boxster Spyder

I've got a soft spot for Porsches, the Boxster Spyder is no exception. 2811lbs -> 320HP -> manual transmission -> big smiles.

Jalopnik has another video definitely worth watching if you like auditory erections.

Daily Bean Delivery - Volvette

I was never good at math so I'll try not to mess this up:

(Volvo+Corvette) + ((Turbos x 2) x 7 psi) = Chest Hair

It brings a tear to a fellow PA resident's eye.

Wide body = Way Better

If you're having circumference problems I feel bad for you son, I got 99 problems but width ain't one.

2011 Mazda 2 (US)

Jalopnik has some pictures of the 2011 Mazda 2 that's destined for the US market. I think it looks pretty great, should be good competition for the Fit.

Daily Bean Delivery #1

Here is Ken "Give it the beans" Block in the video that started it all - Gymkhana training.

For good measure, there are many more crazy Ken "GITB" Block videos at his website. He seems like he would be a fun chum to have.
